WordPress User Bio Won’t Accept HTML? Here’s A Fix
It does accept an anchor tag. But if you want to do any formatting, even just a break tag, WP won’t let you.
But there’s an easy fix for that – no plugin needed!
A word of warning here though – only do this if your user base is very small and you trust them completely. There is the potential for users to cause mischief after you do this if they are code savvy and harbor ill will.
That said – start by opening the functions.php file in your theme’s folder using a text editor. Let’s be cautious and copy it and save it under a different name. Perhaps functionsBackUp.php.
Now go back to the original functions.php and head down to the end of the file. See that “?>”
Make an empty line above that and paste this in:
//allow html in bio remove_filter('pre_user_description', 'wp_filter_kses');
Now save that file, head back to your page, visit the home page and a post and make sure everything is still working as it should. If you did this correctly, there shouldn’t be any problems.
Now just go to your profile, enter the tags the way you want them to be, and save it. They should still be there in your bio now, and should be working on your posts.
